Functions

One of the most fundamental concepts that paves the way to discussing complicated behavioral phenomena with a clear vocabulary.

This is a core concept to understand as it is the building block that builds the rest of the system. In short, a function can be thought of as a "mode of thinking" that has its own quirks, desires, ambitions, and behaviors. It may help to personify the functions like what was done in the Disney film "Inside".

A function is created from the combination of two info elements. This combination does follow specific rules however. Each info element (N,S,T,F) is paired with an Attitude element (E,I). This produces 8 different combinations and thus a personality must be a unique ordering of these 8 functions.

Based on this formula, we know that all of the functions are:

E
I

N

Ne

Ni

S

Se

Si

T

Te

Ti

F

Fe
