Info Elements

The most atomic parts of the system. These elements and their structure and position within the personality type model are what creates the complex behaviors we seek to understand.

Info Elements are the smallest breakdown of the functions and they each describe an area of a complete information metabolism. The info elements can be broken into 3 dichotomies. These dichotomies are groupings that separate all possible styles of gathering information and all possible ways of utilizing that information. For clarities sake, the elements in the E,I dichotomy are called Attitude elements. This is because they are conceptually separate from the info elements, but still atomic elements in their own right.

Observers -> How we take in information.

S -> Reality. What IS. Physical details and concrete perceptions/sensations. Tangible details and objects.

N -> Fantasy. What COULD be. Abstract connections and patterns shared by all objects and concepts.

Deciders -> How we use the information we have.

F -> Feelings / Ethics. Values, Rules, Codes, Hopes, worries, motivations. Information to do with people and animals regarding emotions and social rules.

Also interested in the mixture of people and animals ethics. Enjoys communities, bonds, social traditions, etc...

T -> Facts. Figures. Logic. Information like objects and empirical data. Interested in understanding and manipulating facts and logic to achieve some end.

Focused more on knowable information such as an object or principle's properties, accuracy, consistency with other known facts and information.

F wants to assemble cohesion and ensure harmony amongst either the self or others (Fi vs Fe).

T wants to assemble cohesion and ensure accuracy amongst either internal frameworks or external mechanisms (Ti vs Te).

Attitude Elements

Attitudes -> The "direction" of the information. How it is interpreted and used.

E -> Extraverted. Concerned with the objective, reality of observations and decisions. Takes information as it is and works around it.

  • Can trade accuracy for immediate results

  • (Bear with me on this next one)

    • If the correct sequence is A->B->C->A->B->A->D but A->D gets it done faster and "seems fine" 𝙀 may "jump the gun" and take the shortcut.

I -> Introverted. Concerned with the expected, assumed nature of information. Organizes information based on known information and past experience to determine "how it ought to be". Another way to think about this is to consider how introverted functions often make decisions based on how they assume things should go. This can often happen unknown by the individual for several reasons ranging from willful ignorance to past trauma. This doesn't mean that they follow some internal ruleset blindly though. An individual's reliance on upholding their expectations in different situations can vary widely depending on their Openness and Neuroticism. It is only on the other side of the scale that 𝓳 will allow their expectations for reality to guide their decision making more noticeably. This can lead to fear of change, negative attitudes to those around them and on a rapidly increasing rate.

Attempts to make new information conform to its existing understanding.

  • Can trade immediate results for accuracy

  • Can also trade accuracy for consistency

    • If the correct sequence is A->B->C->A->D but the Introverted function always thought that the sequence was A->B->A->C->D it may forgo the correct answer for the one that confirms its expectations.
